if you don't care about a js error you can even just end the script
block and start again [assuming, of course, that we are actually
_inside_ a script block and not a href or something similar]

like so: FOO = '</script><script>alert("extra script blocks are
cool.")</script><script>//'

sure, you'll get one js error, but it doesn't really matter, as your
code will still run.

Hey, you're right.  I had a suspicion that this might work, and indeed
it does.  I wasn't 100% sure, as browsers' parsing algorithms are so
incredibly complex, that the obvious may not work.

I think when I first came across this situation in an application, most
HTML special characters were actually encoded, except for apostrophes,
which were backslashed.

Anyway, I'll try to post a more difficult one next week.
