Remote file downloads

I quite often get emails with links or find files I'm interested in while
on my phone and so want a system where I can tell my server at home to
download them. Are there any android apps which do that?

I was thinking maybe xmpp or irc based and could probably write something
but would rather use an existing app if one exists.
