Samba+OpenLDAP as AD Replacement

Fellow Security Practitioners!

I'd like to see if anyone has been successfully able to replace AD
infrastructure with OpenLDAP and Samba.

OpenLDAP itself is fairly trivial, but I'm having issues with joining the
domain. Has anyone worked with this previously and have been able to
successfully get this up and running as a true AD replacement?
