Re: canned data for AD and Exchanged

size, when I was at HP we worked some projects with the DOD and others where GC where in the several hundred of
Gigabytes, for most deployments there is no problem but when you are talking about hundreds of thousands of extensions
it does add up very quickly, specially since you have to support mixed environments with several versions of windows
and exchange where you can not leverage some of the new improvements for replication.

Yeah Microsoft seems to have a knack or maybe a sub-market to keep their consulting services alive. It's not that
bad if you RTFM but it seems to be overly complex for something that could have been integrated into AD. About 1/4
of the needed information is already in the LDAP shcema. I don't know why they couldn't clean up the exchange shcema
extension and make it part of the default AD LDAP shcema.

Exchange depends on AD, in fact you have to extend the forest schema and the
domain shcema before installing Exchange, once installed it will create
mailboxes for the leaf objects (User Accounts) in AD and as you know AD
depends heavily on DNS. Exchange is a whole beast all by it

Didn't realise it would be that tricky to install, was just going to
build a 2008 server then install Exchange 2010 and hope for the best,
looks like I might have some reading to do before hand.

for AD wich will populate also Exchange you can do from cmd

Nice, thought there might be something like that. As I'm installing
Exchange on a separate machine is it obvious how the two will link
together?

I asked this on Twitter earlier but thought I'd try a wider audience....

My windows test lab is looking a bit sparse on data, I've got plenty

of web and sql data but nothing much in my AD and I'm about to setup

an Exchange server which won't get much beyond a couple of accounts to

test the setup worked. I've also got Sharepoint to install (blessed is

Technet!) which will start out empty.

Does anyone have any canned data for AD, Sharepoint or Exchange so I

can beef it all up a bit?

Even better, is there an easy way to script creating data so that I

can generate a load to my own specs?
