Hey Adrian,

You can build Cisco/Juniper style router to segment your network by
using Vyatta http://www.vyatta.com/ which would allow you to use left
over PC hardware to build a firewall/router and give your lab internet
access without causing issues on your main network. Since it is based
on Debian you can also run tcpdump and any other linux based tool for
traffic pattern analysis, or virtually anything else you may want to
play with.

Hope this helps,

I'm presenting a talk shortly on building a hacklab to experiment with
security tools and concepts. I have my rough draft slides here:

Any suggestions for additions? Especially ways to get cheap hardware
and pre-made environments to test against.

Thanks,
Adrian
