I think it's been neutral; the "average user" must be getting used to
these OMG THE T00BZ ARE ENDING calls by now.  On the one hand, nothing
horrible happened; on the other, generally it hasn't before either.

Attention from whom?  Television reporters just trying to get the story
their boss told them to and making a hash of it because they don't have
time to do it right?  With friends like those...
