"On our laptop model, the first question is how do you prevent them from
being sold down at the pub," said Coutts-Trotter. "Well, you equip them in a
way so they are only of use within a DET environment or are only of use for
DET students or authorised users, such as staff."

They hand the laptops out to the students... with physical access to the
machines they somehow don't think that they can just be reset, re-installed
and used however the students want. When students have access to the
machine, and the machine is mobile, what sort of whitelisting will work? At
the schools maybe, but soon as they take it home they can access whatever
they want.

You can do anything you set your mind to when you have vision,
determination, and and endless supply of expendable labor.
