Well not everybody has a Solaris 8 box but I confirmed the build error
on Solaris 9 too.

Configure worked on a Solaris 10 box and 'make' failed.

'gmake' worked for a while and then resulted in:

Compiling libnbase
cd nbase && gmake
gmake[1]: Entering directory `/home/solaris/ieng9/oce/8h/b2enrigh/nmap/nbase'
gmake[1]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/home/solaris/ieng9/oce/8h/b2enrigh/nmap/nbase'
Compiling libnsock
cd nsock/src && gmake
gmake[1]: Entering directory `/home/solaris/ieng9/oce/8h/b2enrigh/nmap/nsock/src'
./config.status --recheck
gmake[1]: ./config.status: Command not found
gmake[1]: *** [config.status] Error 127
gmake[1]: Leaving directory `/home/solaris/ieng9/oce/8h/b2enrigh/nmap/nsock/src'
gmake: *** [nsock_build] Error 2

I re-ran ./configure and gmake and the build succeeded.
