Well, I've never tried what he is doing (converting Nmap output to a
PDF).  But I do use XML processors for the Nmap man page and book.
Right now I use all open source tools in converting from XML to PDF.
I use jw/OpenJade which process the XML with DSSSL.

I would rather use XML-FO, but I didn't have much luck with brief
Apache FOP testing.  So I tested a trial version of RenderX's XEP.
That may be what you are thinking about.  That didn't work well for
me, and plus it is proprietary software, so I went back to OpenJade
for now.
