Adsl modem freeze with OS scan

hello folks, I am from India and my connection to the
amazing world of internet is via ADSL router.

its Huawei Smartax 841 modem.
My Operation Systems(dual boot):
WinXP and Kubuntu
I run nmap under both the OS and face the same
problem.
the command 'namp -sS -T4 -O scanme.nmap.org' starts
the scan but after a few seconds the modem freezes and
i can't browse the net although nmap runs at a slower
pace(very slow indeed refering to the progress of the
scan), and the scan never completes. This problem is
with majority of the targets(almost all with which
i've experimented). My ethernet card is Dlink
DFE-520TX. Please help me in this regard.
