(sorry Adrian for accidentally sending just to you) Hi, Another of my ideas is to incorporate a "traceroute" function to Nmap, so a user will have the option of displaying the route taken before scanning a host/hosts. To get through most firewalls, something like "tcptraceroute" could be used, since some hosts block ICMP echo requests or UDP, which is used by normal traceroute. Tcptraceroute (and normal traceroute) is invaluable in my network troubleshooting toolkit, since I can traceroute to any tcp port. Would adding this to Nmap be feature bloat? Nessus already has the traceroute feature(not sure if regular or tcp-traceroute) but I like to use Nmap more;) Should these features be in another tool altogether? Any thoughts on this would be welcome. regards, Arthur Adriano Monteiro <py.adriano () gmail com> wrote: Hi Fyodor! I have one idea... A web interface for Umit. As umit was developed with distinct layers, anyone is able to easily create another interface for it. And it would be very useful, as a sysadmin would scan his network remotely with the umit interface facility. What are your thought about this? Cheeeeeeers! PS: Did you see the last umit version (released on 04/17/2006)? On 4/24/06, Fyodor wrote:
Hello everyone, I'm excited to announce that the Google Summer of Code program has accepted Nmap into the program again. As with last year, they will be sponsoring college and graduate students to work on cool Nmap related projects. Last year they sponsored 10 students, and you can read about some of their successes here: http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=183143&cid=15133184 Now I'm developing project ideas for the new students this summer. You can read the project ideas from last year here: http://www.insecure.org/nmap/GoogleGrants.html I may also add some of the ideas from the (now closed) Nmap user survey: http://www.insecure.org/nmap/survey.html (scroll down for project ideas) But if you guys have any other great ideas for enhancing Nmap (including new tools that might complement it), please post them here. Maybe we can get them done this summer. And any college students on this list should keep this opportunity in mind if you have the Sumer free.
