I get the same, again on FC4, but only when root.
I compiled with gcc4.
I'm now doing a yum upgrade on my box to see if that helps (I noticed configure complained about ipchains).
Works fine with gcc32.

Hi, ive just compiled and makeinstalled nmap3.90 on my 
fedora4 linux box and 
this is what i got:

[root@localhost local]# nmap 192.168.1.1 <http://192.168.1.1>

Warning: File ./nmap-services exists, but Nmap is using 
/usr/local/share/nmap/nmap-services for security and 
consistency reasons. 
set NMAPDIR=. to give priority to files in your local 
directory (may affect 
the other data files too).
caught SIGSEGV signal, cleaning up
