I’m sorry, but this is 100% incorrect. HSRP comes from Cisco, but Cisco originally decided to not release the protocol to the IETF. [Stupid play on their part, but water under the bridge.] The IETF, realizing that this was useful technology, designed VRRP as a competitor to HSRP. Once that was well on its way to standardization, Cisco realized it missed the boat and finally publicly documented HSRP. Please get your facts straight. Tony
