The version of the VNC server that is injected is compatible with all known VNC clients (it's a slightly modified version of RealVNC's WinVNC). With that said, you should not need to change metasploit in any way. If you would like to use the TightVNC client when connecting to the target machine you can simply disable AUTOVNC and manually connect to the local VNC proxy or make it so the TightVNC client is what gets executed once the VNC server has been injected and is executing.
