Course for police on cyber crime

Chennai, Jan 21: Police had a social responsibility to prevent
youngsters indulging in cyber crimes and also to ensure that cyber
cafes were not made crime hubs, Tamil Nadu Director General of Police
(Training) S Ganapathy, said today.

It had become important to impart investigating skills of the police
force to deal with cyber crimes, he said while inagurating a
three-week capsule course on cyber crimes for officers of the rank of
Dy Superintendents of Police, here.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of Anna University's Centre for
Professional Development Education, Dr Udaya Kumar, said as a result
of the training, police would be equipped to deal with such cyber
crimes in the future.

"Human beings have not changed mentally. Mentally, they are still
living in jungles. Only their tool of crime has changed over the
ages," he said adding that it had become essential to supervise cyber
highways.

He cautioned that hackers could cause economic damage to the country.

Na Vijayasankar, Managing Director, Cyber Law Solutions Ltd, Deputy
Inspector General of Police (Training) K Radhakrishnan and Principal,
Police Training College, M C Sarangan, also spoke on the occasion.
