IT manager saboteur convicted

In the first federal prosecution of computer sabotage, a New
Jersey court delivered a conviction against a company's former
IT manager on May 9th.  The jury in the U.S. District Court in
Newark, N.J. found Tim Lloyd, of Wilmington, Delaware, guilty
of setting a software time bomb that seriously injured his
former employer's manufacturing abilities and caused the
company more than $12 million in damages.   Lloyd  had been
fired from Omega Engineering, a manufacturer of high tech
measurement equipment and instrumentation.  He allegedly
caused the company's file server to crash, destroying the
programs which ran the manufacturing machines and causing the
layoff of 80 workers.  Lloyd is scheduled to be sentenced on
July 31st and faces up to five years in prison.
