[Sorry, no url on this one.] In the first federal prosecution of computer sabotage, a New Jersey court delivered a conviction against a company's former IT manager on May 9th. The jury in the U.S. District Court in Newark, N.J. found Tim Lloyd, of Wilmington, Delaware, guilty of setting a software time bomb that seriously injured his former employer's manufacturing abilities and caused the company more than $12 million in damages. Lloyd had been fired from Omega Engineering, a manufacturer of high tech measurement equipment and instrumentation. He allegedly caused the company's file server to crash, destroying the programs which ran the manufacturing machines and causing the layoff of 80 workers. Lloyd is scheduled to be sentenced on July 31st and faces up to five years in prison.
