As the statement linked from my blog post indicates, the law already
provides a method by which dishonest reviews can be removed:  it is called
a defamation

suit.  They frequently succeed, and  lead to substantial awards of damages
(and in some states attorney fees).  In states that allow injunctive relief
in defamation cases, the relief can include an injunction.  Indeed, very
what I see in my practice is that

often the person who left the review removes it in response to the mere
threat of litigation.

As of March 14, 2017, any form contract with a clause purporting to bar
consumers from offering their honest views about a company will become void
ab initio.







Alas, the law as passed is unbalanced. It does nothing to shield businesses
from dishonest reviews posted by spiteful parties (e.g. a non-paying
customer or a tenant who was evicted) or competitors seeking to defame and
discredit them. Hopefully, future revisions

will make it easier to remove reviews planted by such parties.
