IPhone 4 and dropped calls

Today I had an interesting set of dropped calls on my IPhone 4. I thought "ha I am afflicted"  I went home and was 
visited by a person who complained about a lot of dropped calls today. She as not using or calling an IPhone and and 
neither end was  on ATT.
