I wonder about adding even more complexity and central control than we already have. What are the odds the database will be accurate?

We already suffer from a system that takes the abundant wireless capacity and brings it under control of a vast regulatory system. (http://rmf.vc/?n=WhitespacePolicy ).

Yet when I look around at all the Wi-Fi capacity going unused I wonder why we don’t do something much simpler and make that capacity available by adding a second SSID for public use. It would obviate the need for central management and since we’re just going to a near by access point we avoid many of the issues associated with signalin g over a long distance.

Is your communicating wrist watch really going to have to consult a government maintained database? Will it need to know where it is at all times?

Google asks FCC to appoint it a "white space" database admin

http://bit.ly/5vzwtS (Urgent Communications)

I've been and continue to be a big supporter of the "white space"
concept. I'll also admit that the devil will be in the details, and
there are various ways that white space usage could go right -- or
wrong. One particularly disconcerting meme I've heard floating around
has been the idea that hacked firmware for white space devices will
quickly emerge that "steamrolls over" the official rules and illicitly
blows past those devices that are "playing by the rules." If this kind
of scenario comes to pass and is common, white space could descend
into useless chaos.

That would be a serious loss worth trying to prevent.
