Hi Dave,

An article on India's census for IP.

http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report_census-calls-get-fingerprinted-or-pay-rs1000-fine_1371139

IP readers may or may not know about India's UID (Unique ID) project
headed by Nandan Nilekani (ex-Infosys). It has very laudable goals of
empowering citizens for their rights, which are often delayed if not
lost due to paperwork and difficulties over identify. The devil, I
think, lies in the details, more specifically, how are the data
stored, used, and NOT TO BE USED (ideally, verifiably so). The UID
authority has a limited mandate, but the Q becomes how will other
agencies, govt. departments, and "clients" of the UID (which could
even be private entities) use or not use the data.

Thanks,

Rahul
