Let's think about this issue for a minute in terms of competition. Suppose a small competitor wishes to rise up to challenge Google in one of its (increasingly diverse) business areas. Because Google has a huge private fiber network, and has also placed large and expensive servers in the network operations centers of major ISPs, it may not be possible for a small startup to deliver its content to the end user as quickly as Google. Unless, of course, it pays ISPs for "express delivery" of its data.

In other words, one of the things which the proponents of NN most seek to prohibit is the very thing that a startup might need to compete with Google -- or other entrenched content providers, such as Microsoft, Amazon, etc., which are also lobbying for NN regulation.

We must be very wary both of the proposed regulation -- a non- solution to a nonexistent problem -- and of the motives of the companies that support it. Remember: corporations do not do things out of the goodness of their hearts.
