Alas, the disturbing thing about the interview, from my point of view as an independent wireless ISP, is that it suggests that the government will pick winners and losers among both technologies and among service providers and will give little attention to fostering competition -- especially competitors which are not large, politically powerful corporations.

So far, both in the interview and in the FCC's monthly meetings, the Broadband Plan team has mentioned providing spectrum only for mobile providers, leaving fixed wireless providers -- whose service is the most cost-effective way to reach unserved and underserved areas -- to wither on the vine. What's more, it has not proposed any changes to the current auction regime, which could not have been designed better to hobble competition and disadvantage small businesses and new entrants?

How would YOU like it if the government told you that it was going to disadvantage and perhaps destroy the business you'd worked on building for 18 years, cutting it off from vital inputs because... well, for no good reason; just because!
