I covered this subject of Hormel and spam back in '97 in a CyberWire  
Dispatch.

Actually, the Hormel folks are resigned to the use of spam as used to  
denote junk mail; but it makes total sense for them to defend their  
trademark of spam in all caps.

Now, that's not to say that the spam crowd inside Hormel isn't a,  
well, odd...
