Hi.

I don't know if its been pointed out before, but this is about 40 hours of MPEG2 HD or about 61 hours of ~MPEG4 HD hours of programming per month (assuming of 13 Mbps average MPEG2 rate or 9 Mbps average MPEG4 [AVC, etc.] rate) for downloads. This has implications for very legitimate uses, at least, in the context of subscription or pay-per- view services delivering content to subscribers via the Internet.

Dave, do they really need to lower it?? As time goes on and data needs naturally expand (as they have steadily and predictably for decades), this restriction will hit more and more people. I wouldn't be surprised if this same cap affected a material number of subs in 2-3 years time.

The will lower the cap as time goes on. I assume they will loudly advertise the respriction and I hope Verizon loudly advertises it does not YET. djf

The IP crowd might be interested in this. VentureBeat reports:

You just knew it was too good to last. Starting on October 1 of this year, Internet service provider Comcast will begin placing a cap on the amount of data its customers can access a month, DSLreports has learned <http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Comcast-250GB-Monthly-Cap-Goes-Live-October-1-97294 > .

The 250 gigabyte cap, now confirmed by Comcast <http://www.comcast.net/terms/network/amendment/ > , represents on 14,000 of the company's 14.1 million users, it claims. While that may be true today, and while 250 gigabytes may seem like a very high cap, going forward, this is going to be problematic.
