Dave,

Having spent a lot of years working with ad-sales reps and their managers, I suggest that there's likely little more here than tactical opportunism from a vertical-market sales team. Big Health (tm) has money and the sales team sees a way to separate them from some of it by playing to their concerns.

They dynamic certainly scales down to most small newspapers, magazines and their local advertiser bases; there's no reason it shouldn't scale up to Google-esque heights as well.

Might there be bigger consequencs? Yes, but when's the last time you saw a team of sales reps think several moves ahead?
