The Japan Times reported today that KDDI's ISP service was hit by an
extortion attempt.  The police picked up two guys who tried to shake
down KDDI for 5-10 million yen ($45-$90K), claiming to have names,
addresses, telephone numbers, gender, and birthdates of four million
customers, as of December, 2003.  Speculation is that the data was
leaked then by an insider; no word on why someone might have sat on it
for more than two years.  Bank account and other financial info
apparently were not involved.
