The Japan Times reported today that KDDI's ISP service was hit by an extortion attempt. The police picked up two guys who tried to shake down KDDI for 5-10 million yen ($45-$90K), claiming to have names, addresses, telephone numbers, gender, and birthdates of four million customers, as of December, 2003. Speculation is that the data was leaked then by an insider; no word on why someone might have sat on it for more than two years. Bank account and other financial info apparently were not involved. http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20060614a2.html http://www.smartmobs.com/archive/2006/06/14/japanese_intern.html --Rod ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as lists-ip () insecure org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
