Dave asks the key question, what good does this really do, even if  
true? The blog post says, among other things,

"Indeed the Chinese company's understanding of Skype's technology  
seems to be one of their most powerful strategies to protect  
themselves in case Skype tries to retaliate. They have developed  
Skype blocking technology which they claim is fool-proof and  
extremely effective. (See VoIP Predictions for 2006 number 4.) They  
hold in their hands the key to enabling telcos to block Skype in  
China, all of the Middle East and Africa. Zap! Forty Million users  
vanished without a trace!"

The fact is, a telco ability to identify and block Skype packets  
already exists.

Narus Inc., of Mountain View, is one company that has developed that  
ability and sells it to incumbent carriers. See http://

that article was written, the company has also sold its software to  
Shanghai Telecom, so at least one Chinese carrier is already using it  
right now.
