In my Beijing hotel room this morning CNN aired a piece about Yahoo calling for search engines to cooperate to deal with China's "search engine rules." Not surprisingly, as the correspondent was about to say the word "c**sorship" (my inference) the sound went blank for several seconds. Nancy Johnson has introduced a bill that would let the Feds get control over your medical records, regardless of what state law might have to say on the matter.
This provision was requested by the large insurance carriers, who want to be absolutely sure that they have your complete medical history. That way, they can be sure to refuse to insure you if you seem a bad risk, or find new reasons to deny coverage of a problem if anything in your medical history suggests that it might be "pre-existing." Heaven forbid that you should be able to pay out of pocket for treatment (even of an embarrassing condition) and have it go unrecorded! - --Brett Glass - ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as dhawkins () nrdc org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (MingW32) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iD8DBQFD8eOvh0VyAToQeqERAuJCAKCNXLZT8ib2TnKX75lERxOrYAtlQgCfR5Zq MGXxNKeWrVG3s75/iIiUdlU= =uzIU -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------------------------------------- You are subscribed as lists-ip () insecure org To manage your subscription, go to http://v2.listbox.com/member/?listname=ip Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/interesting-people/
