A number of the notes on the spam reduction due to the quake have
carried the subtext that most spam comes from Asia, and China in
particular. The interesting metric is how spam is distributed relative
to total Internet population -- spam may be down simply because many
users are cut off, not because China is a major spam source.

Or maybe spam is down because it's the holiday season and domestic US
spammers have better things to do -- after all, many studies have
claimed that most spam comes from the U.S. Gilbert & Sullivan said it
well, long ago:

When a felon's not engaged in his employment ___
                His employment,
Or maturing his felonious little plans ___
                Little plans,
His capacity for innocent enjoyment ___
                'Cent enjoyment
Is just as great as any honest man's ___
                Honest man's.
