This is not quite accurate - you can lock international bags, I do so
frequently, it is internal US flight bags that you cannot lock.

However I agree with the general premise - I am not willing to travel  
with
my camera gear and p'book in hold luggage.

and the other intenational airports in the UK including Edinburgh &
