Dear Prof. Farber and Mr. Truman:

As a RealtorĀ®, I think the technology blocks the address. Realtor.com specifically doesn't post the address of a home. The closest you will get is a zip code (which may work for Mr. Truman's needs). I believe most Real Estate sites are "built" the same way. Even going on an agency's site will not pull specific addresses (we WANT you to call us). Realtor.com and the agency sites all pull the listing info via a FTP (it is known as "IDX" see here for more info: http://www.ct- mls.com/idx/default.html [it is rights and usage stuff, with a drop of tech added in]). For safety and privacy issues there is a relatively good reason to not list the address info.

I would be happy to help any IP'ers looking for a home in Southwestern Connecticut or sell their home. If you are outside of the area, I am still happy to answer any Real Estate related questions, though I won't have knowledge of specific law and practices.

Normally I remove my signature, but in the name of disclosure, I'll leave it in for this post.

I spent today listening to the CEO or Realtor.com (Alan Dalton) speak in Hartford for today.

I've been hunting for a house for the past several monthes and wanted to be able to rely on Septa's Regional Rail for commuting into/out of Center City. The level of GIS data in the average real estate web site is pretty poor, so I considered taking matters into my own hands and building an application that would combine the data at Realtor.com, Septa.com and maps.google.com to allow a user to search for homes for sale within a given price range that are also located with a certain distance from stops along a specified rail line, in my case, the R5.

If anyone has seen anything like this or wants to build it, let me know. Archives at: http://www.interesting-people.org/archives/ interesting-people/
