I guess I wouldn't qualify it as child abuse given the more recent examples
of true abuse, and further this one uneducated or hostile security person
does not seem to be unusual.  I would much rather see us work on some rules
that we and the TSA could work with that would respect the sensitivities of
women, children, the handicapped, etc without compromising safety.   The
current system is a joke anyways, and no matter what the government does
relying on entry-level people and scanners alone will always fail.  [I have
a pacemaker and on a recent trip declared that while still wearing my
jacket.  I was brought aside, told to remove (but hold at arms length as
there was neither table nor hook in the examination area) my jacket while I
was patted down, then I put it on and went to my gate.  In the pockjets were
a PDA, cell phone and camera, never examined.  Could just as easily been a
pistol.]

I think the issue that this forum could address is to what degree would we
be willing to submit to pre-profiling in order to make the system more
selective.  I know there are huge civil liberty issues involved, but it
seems to me that we let Equifax know more about us that we do our government
and in some ways are paying the price by having "abusive" security operating
on the forced assumption that all passengers are armed and dangerous.

Going through security at Kona airport (Hawaii) my 6 year old grandson was
flagged for inspection (!).  He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts and could
obviously not be hiding anything.  He was told to stand on the foot-marks
for a physical pat-down and wanding but his feet could not reach each mark.
The inspector simply waited while he tried and tried, tears streaming.  I
had a hand-held digital camera and when I raised it to take a picture of
this ridiculous scene I was told that it was a federal offense to photograph
the security process and that if I clicked the shutter I would be arrested.

What bothers me most after the pain of seeing a small child frightened and
humiliated is that I am paying for this idiocy.
