------ Forwarded Message From: "Munro, Neil" <NMunro () nationaljournal com> Date: Fri, 15 Apr 2005 14:49:23 -0400 To: <dave () farber net> Subject: Before ths religious thread gets further out of whack, let's read the constitution - Neil Artcile IV; Clause 3: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States. Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. xxxxxxxxxx I¹d be interested in reading arguments from those readers who think it is desirable to treat religiously-motivated notions and ideas as different from other classes of ideas (environmentalism liberalism, socialism, libertarianism, materialism, racism, etc. etc.), so that they can be segregated from public debates on matters such as the selection of judges. I¹d like to read arguments, not feelings. Many expressed their feelings in the last election, even religious believers.
