In an interview with Doug Kaye at IT Conversations, Greenspun explains how an IT shop's leveraging of open source's openness can lead to the same sort of costly maintenance nightmares that customizations of proprietary software have led to. Conversely, he notes, that maintenance headache can mean huge revenues for an open source developer or IT services company.
