In the last Ontario Provincial election, voters filled out an optically scanned
card. Each polling station had a optical card reader manned by a electoral
official who took and read the voter's card. The card was then handed back
to the voter who placed it into a locked box.

Tallying was quick, yet a paper trail was preserved.
