Dave:

I had the opportunity to study with Herman on two occasions back in the late 60s and early 70s. His insights and moral (yes moral) character was THE driving force for the most insightful cutting-edge forward thinking; some say (and I agree) Herman's ability to peer into the abyss was the reason United States has not, thus far found itself engaged in a nuclear war.(All the more surprising considering that hair-trigger, 'Nuke 'em back to the Stone age' "Cold War" period.) The work done by Herman and his associates at his Hudson Institute, remains a beacon of clarity compared to the current Indianapolis/Washington D.C. based Institute that lamely attempts to carry forth spectacular work.
