question

Dave,

As I recall, a spinoff of Northern Telecom was wrapping fiber (?)
around the power tranmissions lines all across England as long ago as
1995-1996? I remember they blew through an enormous amount of cash,
there were talks about restructuring, and then nothing more was heard.
The name of the spinoff escapes me, but I seem to recall it was one of
those made-up words with an "uplifting" tone. Not sure what happened to
them (I moved to America) but I always thought it was an excellent
idea, so thankfully it looks like they've ironed out the bugs.

Speaking of Nortel spinoffs, there seems to be an awful lot of them
these days. Does anyone have any comments/opinions on NorVergence? I
work for a very well-respected NYC-based arty nonprofit, and we're
considering using a NorVergence-like product (Voice over ATM) to reduce
our very significant telco costs. I've scoured the net for
opinions/reviews of the NorVergence/Nortel product, but little is out
there.

Might any of the list subscribers have comments on NorVergence/the
Nortel Matrix product?

Thanks,
RMT.
