Dave,

One of my proudest moments as a journalist wa 'way back in 1985, when
I was West Coast Editor for Electronics magazine and me and Cliff
Barney (the bureau chief) actually got them to let us write a piece
about chip companies and TCE groundwater pollution.

Of course, the piece had to focus on who was doing _cleanup_ as
opposed to the ongoing polluteres, but it was something. And at that
point, one or two chip companies were actually talking about maybe
thinking about possibly considering potentially <rueful grin> using
biodegradable and nontoxic solvents, mostly citrus-based as my hazy
memory recalls. Nonetheless, we had to fight like hell to get it into
the magazine.

The Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition has been fighting this fight for
a couple of decades now. I googled SVTC after reading Jonathan's
note, and they're still in business, in case anyone cares to explore
further.

Best,
Denise
