Key Intel component powered down, swapped out: Leslie Vadasz, president of
Intel Capital, announced his retirement Thursday. Vadasz, Intel's No. 3
employee and a celebrated engineer who led the team that designed the 4004,
the world's first commercial microprocessor, will step down on June 1. He
will be succeeded by John Miner, who has been general manager of Intel
Capital since last year. "Les Vadasz has been a source of innovation and
strategic guidance throughout Intel's history," CEO Craig Barrett said. "He
is the ultimate engineer, with a knack for anticipating where the industry
is headed and how to position us for success. Much of Intel's leadership
position in the chip industry is the result of contributions Les has made."
