From: Dewayne Hendricks <dewayne () warpspeed com> FCC'S POWELL TO TELECOMS: BE UP FRONT OR BE REGULATED Posted January 04, 2002 01:30 Pacific Time WASHINGTON -- THE chairman of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) advised a telecommunication industry gathering here Friday to be up front with customers regarding shortcomings of new products and services, lest the frustration that users feel in adopting new technology makes it way into regulation. At a meeting of the Network Reliability and Interoperability Council (NRIC) held at the FCC's Washington headquarters, Chairman Michael Powell was presented with reports, one of which was the recommendation that the council put an end to voluntary network-reliability trials. The council, established by the FCC, brings together industry, government, and academic telecommunication specialists to recommend ways of improving the reliability of public telecommunication networks.
