Subject: Domain name scam

Dave:

An outfit which calls itself the "Domain Registry of America" is apparently
sending mailings to addresses listed in the public WHOIS database in
an attempt to deceive them into switching registrars.

The notices look like bills (though, in the fine print, they admit that
they are not) and are clearly intended to fool clerical staff into
paying them, thereby transferring the domain registration to the
company. While the notice claims that the firm offers "new lower prices,"
its prices are in fact higher than those of many other registrars.

Have other folks on the IP list received this firm's red, white, and
blue notices? Is the FTC aware of this deceptive practice?
