Dave -

Your readers should know that there is an effort underway to demonstrate
(rather than argue) that a responsible At-Large movement is
forming. Whatever form ICANN ultimately takes, it needs to be accountable
to the public that uses the Net....and we believe the best mechanism is
through an At-Large Membership that could provide policy input and elect
At-Large Board members - who would themselves be accountable *and visible*
in their activities and opinions.

To join this movement (by pledging to be an active member when such a
membership is formally created), please follow the steps below (from Pindar
Wong).

*right* now the best method is a two step process to build public visibility
that the At Large is both underway and gathering support.
Step:
1) subscribe to the at large forum ( so that you have permission to post)

enter your email address and you've subscribed

2) Pledge 'something' (money, time, resources, participation, opinions or
support) to

this is the time not to castigate the board (or anyone else), but to
encourage them to do the right thing. Whatever the overall structure, we
should do all we can to make them attach the At-Large Trustees to an
At-Large Membership that would play a role in electing and advising them.

Prove that there *is* an alternative to top-down appointments that will work!

what else to do when you go under?

PS. I am interested to understand why Stuart at the same time shows that
Carl's ALSC was a failure and that politicians are much in need. Or is
that Carl has been coopted by the CEO - it seems Staff gains a lot of
weigth - as the Eurpean @large?
