The New York Times reports that one of the founders of Akamai
was on one of the hijacked flights:

Akamai Technologies, an Internet services company based in Cambridge,
Mass., said a technology billionaire, a founder of the company and
its chief technology officer, Daniel C. Lewin, was on board the
same plane. His wife and two sons were not traveling with him.

A very sad irony. Right now, effective caching and multicasting
are what the Internet needs, as millions of people flock to
nytimes.com and other leading newspaper and media sites worldwide.

For a while yesterday, Google's site urged people to turn on the
television instead of searching for news on the Internet. This
wise counsel was later replaced; Google offered direct links to
major sites (including the Times) and cached copies of major articles.
