WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Science Committee Chairman Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY)
today moderated an on-line "web chat" discussion between the President's
point person on computer security and six experts in the computer security
industry. During the forum, Boehlert said his committee had placed
cyber-security as a top priority well before the Sept. 11 attacks.

The "web chat" - entitled "Building America's Information Shield:
Public/Private Leaders Discuss Critical Information Systems, Security and
Protection" -- provided a rare opportunity for the press to interact
directly with government and industry leaders on computer security. Topics
discussed included the heightened focus on the nation's cyber-security that
has emerged as a result of threats to critical public and private data
systems, existing security and protection technologies, and the
extraordinary steps the federal government and industry are taking to ensure
critical systems are protected.

The featured expert was Paul Kurtz of the National Security Council. He is
the Bush Administration's Director of Critical Infrastructure Protection.
Expert industry panelists included John Conlin, COO of Vericept; Dr. Peter
S. Tippett, chief technologist of TruSecure Corporation; Bob Brennan, CEO of
Connected Corporation; Randy Sandone, CEO of Argus Systems Group; Buky
Carmeli, CEO and chairman of SpearHead Security Technologies; and Joe Magee,
chief security officer at Top Layer Networks, Inc.

Schwartz Communications (781-684-0770) sponsored the event. A transcript of
the web chat will be available at: http://webcast.mediaondemand.com.
