Dave,

I just got back from the courthouse. The below message is entirely untrue; it's even not backed up by the BBC article. Here's what happened this afternoon:

* DOJ said in court that their deal with Microsoft is intact. They have no problems with the nine-state deal and will not be a party to future litigation in this case. * Nine states (NY, Michigan, Ohio, NC, Kentucky, Louisana, Maryland, Illinois, Wisconsin) have settled with Microsoft and agreed to a modified version -- details to come -- of the DOJ's agreement inked last week. * Nine states and the District of Columbia are going to continue with the litigation. There were some hints in and out of the courtroom today that some more states that are in that coalition may defect.

BBC is reporting the settlement has collapsed & Judge is pursuing
penalty hearings. Seems that six states said, "Hell no, we won't go!"
