Dear Dr. Farber:

I thought you might be interested in this announcement of the IEEE Computer
Society International Design Competition (CSIDC) - an undergraduate student
computer design competition held 24-25 June at the Crystal City Hilton.

The students have spent the last 5 months designing innovative
computer-based devices using state-of-the-art Bluetooth Wireless
Communications Technology.  Examples include:

- a software/hardware toolset called "BlueGenius" to build applications for
robots and build two vaccum robots to clean a room;
-"BlueStar", a system to ease the transition to solar power by improving
the efficiency of home solar power systems;
-a system for mobile monitoring and controlling household applicances;
-an advanced audio-guided tour system for use in museums and art galleries
to deliver personalized and real-time information rather than static audio
tape data;
-"BlueEyes", a complext solution that uses special spectacles to monitor
the user's state of consciousness, useful for personnel monitoring critical
systems such as nuclear reactors and air traffic control;
-a head-mounted helmet created by combining Bluetooth, a webcam and a
gyroscopic mouse designed to be used by a paraplegic in a wheelchair;
-"The Poket Doktor" a device that communicates an individual's medical
history, blood type and allergies to medical personnel in the event of an
emergency;
-a device that creates a keychain "personal identification system" that
allows retailers to learn about customer shopping preferences and interact
with them on a personal level.

I've attached a press release describing the competition. The final
schedule of events will be announced in the next few days.

Best regards,

Anne Marie Kelly
