The content of this conference may be of interest to your IP readers, since it's at the intersection of networking technology, some really hot button issues around intellectual property and freedom of speech, and a lot of really intriguing new technologies. As many of your readers will know, the interest in Napster kicked off a lot of buzz that has since spread into other areas, as people start to make connections between what happened with Napster, and emerging trends in peered web services, the "two-way web", instant messaging as an application platform, device-device interaction, distributed computation, and of course, the various other file-sharing networks. We've put together a conference on both the technical and business/social implications of this next generation of internet apps, with a really first rate speaker list, including Bill Joy, Larry Lessig of Stanford, Ray Ozzie of Groove, Ian Clarke, creator of Freenet, Gene Kan of Gnutella, David Anderson of >Kan of Gnutella, David Anderson of Seti@Home, Clay Shirky, who's offered some of the most penetrating analyses of the impact of Napster, and many more. There's an unusual mix of open source grassroots projects, startups, and big companies. For the full program, people can go to http://conferences.oreilly.com/p2p. We also have a number of articles about p2p and the various technologies that are collectively being grouped together around that meme at http://www.openp2p.com. -- Tim O'Reilly @ O'Reilly & Associates, Inc. 101 Morris Street, Sebastopol, CA 95472 +1 707-829-0515, FAX +1 707-829-0104 tim () oreilly com, http://www.oreilly.com
