Microsoft Hires Compliance Officers

REDMOND, Wash. (AP) - To help it comply with legal obligations, Microsoft is
turning to a pair of former federal officials.

The software giant said Thursday it hired Odell Guyton and David Dadoun to
work as legal-compliance officers to help comply with legal obligations,
including the proposed antitrust consent decree with the Justice Department
and nine states.

Guyton, a former federal prosecutor, will serve as director of compliance
for the software giant, overseeing a comprehensive education and compliance
assurance program.

Dadoun, a former antitrust enforcement lawyer with the Federal Trade
Commission, was tapped to be an internal antitrust compliance officer. He
will administer Microsoft's antitrust compliance program as required under
the proposed consent decree.

Guyton, 46, worked as a prosecutor for 12 years. Most recently, he served as
corporate compliance officer at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dadoun, 37, recently joined Microsoft's Law and Corporate Affairs antitrust
practice group. After leaving the FTC, he practiced antitrust law as a
partner in a Seattle law firm.

The settlement requires that Microsoft allow consumers to remove some
features in Windows and release some of the Windows blueprints to
competitors so they can write compatible software. In March, a federal judge
is scheduled to decide whether the settlement is good for consumers.

While reaching a proposed settlement with nine states and the federal
government, Microsoft is still facing legal challenges from nine other
states.
