Interactive Web radio stations may be granted the same licenses other radio stations have if proposed changes to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act are accepted by Congress. A House Judiciary Committee will review the proposal, which the Recording Industry Association of America opposes. Current law limits the type of radio broadcasts that recording studios must offer licenses to, and the Web broadcasters in the Digital Media Association want to broaden that definition. Metrics firm MeasureCast said the number of people listening to Internet radio in October tripled since January, and Jupiter Media Metrix has said 30 million consumers will have bought music online this year.
