Hello--

A new computer virus has been detected at Penn. The virus is
contained in attachments to email messages. Email containing this
virus may have subject lines that include the words "life_stages,"
"funny," or "joke." The file extension of the attachment can be
either .TXT or .SHS.

If you are using a pc email client, such as Eudora, Netscape Messenger
or Microsoft Outlook, do not open this attachment. Delete the message
without opening it. Opening the attachment on a pc can cause file and
system problems on your pc, and can spread the virus to other users.
If you are using a unix mail reader such as elm, simply delete the
message.

Our current supported pc antivirus software (VirusScan) will detect
and remove this virus. Here is how to tell if your antivirus software
is up-to-date. (This applies to pcs running Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0
and Windows 2000.)

Look in the lower right corner of your display. If there is an icon
of a shield with a "V", right-click on the icon and select "About".
The "Virus definitions" should be at version "4.0.4082".

If you have an earlier version, or do not have this shield icon, or if
you have any other questions about this, please send me mail.
